Non-invasive adenomatous component in carcinoma of papilla of Vater: an immunohistochemical study of carbohydrate antigen, CA19-9.

چکیده
Eleven patients with carcinoma of papilla of Vater accompanied by non-invasive adenomatous component (nac) had good prognosis after surgical resection. These carcinomas were associated with low serum CA19-9 levels seldom invaded or metastasized to the pancreas, duodenum, lymph node and vein. On the contrary, 12 patients whose carcinomas lacked in 'nac' had poor prognosis after resection. The 'nac' negative carcinomas invaded or metastasised more frequently to the pancreas, duodenum, lymph node and vein. A half of the 'nac' negative carcinoma showed high serum level of CA19-9. A significant different immunohistochemical pattern of CA19-9 was demonstrated between the 'nac' positive and negative carcinomas. The former showed partial, while the latter showed diffuse distribution pattern.

Adenoma of the ampulla of Vater: putative precancerous lesion.
The histopathology of 12 patients with adenoma of the ampulla of Vater was examined to trace the adenoma-carcinoma sequence of the ampulla of Vater. Immunohistochemistry for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 was also performed. Four large adenomas with mild dysplasia also had foci of moderate dysplasia while another one contained foci of severe dysplasia (intramu...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical staining of colorectal tissues with monoclonal antibodies to ras oncogene p21 product and carbohydrate determinant antigen 19-9.
Two monoclonal antibodies were applied to benign, dysplastic, and malignant human colorectal tissues using immunohistochemical techniques on formalin fixed paraffin embedded material. RAP-5 antibody is directed against a synthetic peptide, reflecting an amino acid sequence of the ras oncogene p21 protein product. Despite using several different techniques and antibody dilutions differential sta...
متن کاملE-Cadherin in Relation with the Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen of the Bilharzia Associ-ated and Non-Associated Urinary Bladder Carcinoma
Background: E-cadherin is a trans-membrane glycoprotein that plays a critical role in many aspects of cell adhesion as well as establishment and maintenance of epithelial cell polarity. Loss of the adhesive function of E-cadherin seems to promote invasive and metastatic properties of neoplastic cells. Objectives: The present study is a retrospective study aiming to evaluate the loss of E-cadher...
متن کاملRole of serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen in distinguishing between benign and invasive intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas.
BACKGROUND Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas has malignant potential. Although serum levels of carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) are known to be raised in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, little has been reported about their significance in IPMN. METHODS Preoperative CA19-9 and CEA levels were measured in consecutive patients under...
متن کاملIntraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm (ITPN) of the pancreas associated with an invasive component: a case report with review of the literature
BACKGROUND Intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm (ITPN) depicts a distinct entity in the subgroup of premalignant epithelial tumors of the pancreas. Although the histomorphological and immunophenotypical characterization of ITPN has been described by several authors in terms of report of case series in the past, the rarity of that tumor subtype and similarity to other entities still makes identi...
